Southcoast Health Opens a Specialized Outpatient Procedural Recovery Unit at Charlton Memorial Hospital
The new ultramodern Procedural Recovery Unit (PRU) is now open at Southcoast Health’s Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.
This specialized outpatient unit includes nine beds to support patients while they prepare for and recover after cardiovascular, electrophysiology, and interventional radiology procedures.
Providing support to the hospital’s eight procedure labs, the PRU is specifically designed to streamline care and enhance patient experience. Creating a dedicated space for patients expected to be discharged the same day as their procedure, this unit ensures they receive comforting and personalized care from the moment they are admitted until they are ready to leave.
“We are proud to provide this important resource for our patients and community,” said David O. McCready, President and CEO of Southcoast Health. “This specialized approach to care exemplifies our commitment to clinical excellence. I would also like to congratulate the entire team who made this achievement possible.”
The unit is staffed by a dedicated team of cardiovascular trained registered nurses who specialize in caring for cardiovascular and interventional radiology patients. Their experience includes cardiac monitoring and critical care, with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
“With a team approach, the highly trained staff, and providers in the PRU have years of experience in these specific services. This unit focuses on the unique needs of each patient with the goal to help them recover at home after their procedure where they are often the most comfortable,” said Robbie Geide, Director of Intervention Cardiology at Southcoast Health.
The new space at Charlton Memorial is next to the surgical care center and is open Monday – Friday from 5:30am to 10pm.
“This growth is another example of the Southcoast Health Heart & Vascular Center’s commitment to consistently putting the needs of our patients first. We always focus on improving the patient experience and providing continued top-notch care. I am delighted with how this unit improves our cross-functional communication within the hospital, making it easier for our cardiac providers to work together,” said Peter Cohn, MD, Chief of the Heart & Vascular Center at Southcoast Health. “It is essential that we are able to provide this level of specialized care right here in Fall River.”
