About Waihong Chung
Waihong Chung, MD, PhD earned his Bachelor of Science with High Distinction in Biology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. He proceeded to earn his medical degree and his doctorate degree in Pathobiology from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, RI. After completing his internal medicine residency at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY, Dr. Chung furthered his medical training and completed a research fellowship at the division of Gastroenterology at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Dr. Chung has published extensively in various peer-reviewed scientific journals and his research has also been reported in the national media, including the U.S. News.
Dr. Chung was initially drawn to the field of medicine by his strong interest in biology and physiology. While attending medical school, Dr. Chung realized that nothing else filled his life with a greater sense of purpose and satisfaction than listening to his patients, reflecting on their experiences, and guiding them through their recovery process. He is a firm believer in evidence-based medicine and shared decision-making. It is his goal as a physician to help his patients demystify their illnesses, digest relevant clinical research, and devise a treatment plan that is consistent with their overall goals and values. Dr. Chung has received countless commendations from his patients throughout his training for his unique ability to explain even the most complex medical concepts in an unambiguous and accessible manner.
When not at work, Dr. Chung enjoys quahogging in the summer as well as sledding with his children in the wintertime, and also indulging in different culinary arts.
