About Michael Messina

Dr. Messina started his medical education completing a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry at Boston College. From there he furthered his medical studies at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, receiving his Doctor of Medicine. Michael completed his residency at New Hampshire Dartmouth Family Medicine in Concord.

Dr. Messina’s philosophy of care revolves around providing his patients with the best, most evidence-based care that he’s capable of providing. He strongly believes in listening to his patients and making them feel heard. Dr. Messina believes that doctors provide better medical care when they allow themselves to be human and connect with the human being in front of them.

When not at work, he spends most of his time with his family.

    Although, Dr. Messina was running late for my appointment, I never felt as though he rushed through my visit. He took his the time to examine and ask questions and give me advice about my symptoms. He also had a student along side him and I thought he was very eager for the student to learn. There was a time during my exam that the student wasn't able to see a certain movement so Dr. Messina asked if he could show her again. I was very happy with my experience again this visit.

    I really like Dr. Messina. He was extremely knowledgeable and had an excellent bedside manner - a rare combination in this day and age. I hope that the Southcoast Health System will do more in the future to focus on the retention of its providers. I personally have had several practitioners/physicians leave Southcoast over the past decade which makes things extremely hard as a middle-aged patient.

    I'm happy with my provider, but he switched from Cape Cod Health Care, to South Coast Health Care. And I was not pleased with how little information was transferred, especially to my insurance company and how my insurance company did not know that he was still my primary care provider after I had agreed to move with him off Cape. Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
