General CardiologyAbout Melissa Cabrera
Melissa earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island. She then went on to obtain her Master of Science, Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Services in Boston, Massachusetts.
She decided to further her studies and become a Nurse Practitioner because she wanted greater autonomy in assisting her patients with decisions regarding their health.
Her personal philosophy of care is to always strive to provide individualized, holistic, and patient centered care; always treating her patients with the same level of care and respect that she herself would want to receive.
Melissa’s decision to specialize in cardiology was largely influenced by her having seen the positive impact that cardiologists have had on her own grandmother’s health and wellness. Specializing in cardiology allows her to make a positive difference in the lives of other cardiac patients.
To her, Southcoast Health is a community centered health system that provides excellent care to its community. This was a major factor in her wanting to be a part of Southcoast Health; she is able to give back and care for patients in the same community she grew up in.
When not at work, she enjoys strength training, watching movies, hiking, reading, and traveling.
