About Melanie Chitas

Melanie Chitas graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and was the project chairperson for the Mass Student Nurses Association. She then went on to further her medical expertise, graduating with honors with her Master of Science degree in Nursing from Regis College. Melanie is NCC board certified in women’s health as a Nurse Practitioner.

Melanie’s clinical interests lie within preventative women’s health care, fertility treatments and menopausal treatments. She started her career as a nurse at Charlton Memorial Hospital before transitioning to an office nurse in the OB/GYN setting before advancing to become a women’s health nurse practitioner.

Her philosophy of care it to provide personalized care by acknowledging and listening to each patient’s individual situation, to provide compassionate care and to educate her patients and their families so that the decision making can be shared.

When not at work, Melanie enjoys camping and riding ATVs with her family.

This was my first time seeing Melanie. When I arrived, she had told me that she carefully looked up my medical history and lab results. She knew specific information about my health and provided valuable resources for me (I.e pediatrician list, breastfeeding, and vaccine information) to me as a first time mom. She had calm and respectful bedside manner.

This was my first time seeing Melanie in person and she was very personable and respectful. She was also through and did not rush through the appointment. Her explanation for "what's next" was very clear and informative and her thoughts and feedback were helpful and well matriculated. I think I have worked with her over the phone with Dr. Hari and (if it was her) her communication back between Dr. Hari and myself was excellent as well. Together they are a great team. After receiving disappointing care from other providers in the past, your staff has help to restore some of my faith in the medical system, and that there are some great places still out there. Also, the front desk staff along with the tech were very personable which made me feel comfortable.

Excellent care during annual exam. Provider took their tine w me and the intern was very thorough as was the provider. It was a near perfect visit and all my health needs were met and discussed. I wasnt rushed, tbey were friendly and gentle during exam. Great visit, i would see melanie again for sure.

She took the time to answer my questions, she explained exactly what was going on during my procedure, and she was very calming through out the process. Melanie was great and very informative but I waited at the front desk for check in and check out each time 5-7 minutes that felt like 20. It was pretty uncomfortable staring at them thru glass windows and neither of them acknowledging you or seem like in an hurry to finish up what they're doing. Then made you feel like you were bothering them when they asked your name.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
