About Matthew Baltz

Dr. Baltz received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut Medical School. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Baltz is a member of the American Academy of Surgeons and American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. His special interests include arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and ankle, sports related injuries, and general fractures.

He previously served as assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Northeastern University. Currently, he is the team physician for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Wareham Gatemen.

Dr. Baltz is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

Dr did not use my first name once in the visit. He was harried, rushed, impersonal, spoke demeaningly to me about a health issue he said he wouldn't address but was concerned about the decision I had made. I didn't appreciate being berated.Referred to front desk professionals as "girls up front". Woman who took xrays behaved as though I was a commodity not a patient in pain. Harsh movements of xray bed aggravated my pain.All in all super disappointing.

This is intended not to be negative but room for growth.From the nurse to provider, I did not feel I was asked and listened too in detail on my injuries, medical history or needs. I felt like a number, and felt as I got a speech based on the average issues they see in office. It may very well have been, but making the connection with the patient is important and the nurse cut me off twice when I was speaking to explain. I almost excused myself and left but I have been putting this injury off for two years and that was more important. I hope this helps!

Last time I received a cortisone shot I left feeling like I could walk a marathon!!! I was very impressed with the results. This time the pain did not seem to subside. I missed work the next day and shots don't seem to be effective after a few days. I guess I was expecting better results from the shot.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
