About Mark Shparber

A medical oncologist in the region for more than 20 years, Dr. Shparber has a unique perspective of the needs of cancer patients in our region. He also serves as the medical director for the hospice program at Southcoast VNA.

Dr. Shparber earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Cornell Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in hematology/oncology at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center.

He is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine.

The doctor was very clear in explaining my issues, he seemed to be very smart, thorough and knew a lot about my medical history.The gals in the lab were wonderful & gentle. I was impressed with the phlebotomist, she got my labs so quickly & without any pain! The other nurse/tech explained really well how to do my home testing.I look forward to my next visit.

I sat in the waiting room for the doctor. It was kind of long. It seemed like a very long time to sit in the place for the room to see the doctor. But otherwise, I really loved my doctor, Dr. Shparber, and he's a very good doctor. He cares about you. And the ones that give me my shots for my prolia did an excellent, excellent, excellent job. They're very courteous. They're very nice. And I really appreciate them. Thank you very much. I think your hospital is a great place to be, especially when you have breast problems, breast cancer.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
