About John Leimert

John D. Leimert, M.D., F.A.A.P earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. Prior to that he had earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Leimert completed his chief residency in Pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and then completed his fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology and Critical Care at Rhode Island Hospital.

Dr. Leimert’s clinical interests include general pediatrics, pediatric respiratory diseases, and the delivery of high quality care to underserved populations. He was inspired to become a physician after watching his brother go to medical school, and learning of his experiences within the medical field. In addition, pediatrics interested Dr. Leimert as he worked at a New Hampshire based camp for underprivileged kids throughout high school and college, really enjoying the opportunities to coach and teach them. His personal philosophy of care is rooted in being present to all aspects of the patient’s human condition – not just the clinical presentation, but also the family’s defining social, economic, ethnic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds.

Outside of work, Dr. Leimert enjoys many outdoor activities with his grandsons including hiking, kayaking, biking, skiing, camping, swimming, and traveling. Additionally, he teaches Tufts University physician assistant students the art of pediatric medicine, being a member of the faculty there for almost 30 years.

  • This visit was great, timely, interested in [Name] care. I did call a few weeks ago for a sick visit & was not able to get through to anyone & ended up at urgent care for another issue. I sat on hold for about 30 min then hung up & decided to go to urgent care to have [Name] seen.

  • Great doctor, informed of patient's history and caring.

  • Very welcoming office; friendly interactive staff both check in and check out. Rooming staff [Name] very sweet and reassuring to my nervous child. Asked him what would be better for him to help him relax.

  • Provider is patient and explains everything asked. He's kind so glad I made the choice to switch and come to this office

  • Dr Leimert knew both boys' medical histories and I appreciated that, he asked great questions, was very professional, and is a great doctor. Also so good with the kids.

Southcoast Health physician profiles now feature star ratings.  Below, you’ll find frequently asked questions about our process for calculating the ratings.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
