Dr. Dorn received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York, master’s degree in clinical psychology from Marshall University and his doctorate from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. His doctoral dissertation concerning cerebral dysfunction in schizophrenia was completed as part of a NIMH funded research program at the University of Chicago Biological Psychiatry Program at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute, Chicago, IL. Dr. Dorn has subspecialty training and experience in infant and toddler mental health, pediatric, adolescent and adult clinical psychology and neuropsychology, as well as geriatrics.
Dr. Dorn’s clinical interests focus on differential diagnostic testing in the areas of neurodevelopmental disorders (autism, pervasive developmental disorders, genetic syndromes, learning disabilities), attention and learning disorders, neurocognitive aspects of neurologic disorders (strokes, aneurysms, seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis), traumatic brain injuries including concussions, and Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Moreover, Dr. Dorn has extensive experience in the evaluation of talented and gifted children and adults.
Dr. Dorn is affiliated with Southcoast Health (Brain and Spine Center as well its three affiliated hospital sites, Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham. Dr. Dorn is also a consultant at Southcoast Behavioral Health Hospital.
Academic positions have included clinical instructor, research supervisor or adjunct faculty at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, the College of DuPage, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania State University.
Additionally, Dr. Dorn is trained as a sports psychologist and has coached both girls’ and boys’ basketball through the high school AAU level. Academic positions have included clinical instructor, research supervisor or adjunct faculty at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, the College of DuPage, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and invited lecturer at the Barnstable (Cape Cod) Police Academy.
