About Erika Mello

Dr. Mello earned her bachelor’s degree at Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned her medical degree from Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey and completed her residency at the University of Connecticut in internal medicine.

Dr. Mello is a board certified in internal medicine primary care physician and has over 12 years of experience. Her experience includes both rural and metropolitan medicine, and inpatient and outpatient care. Dr. Mello is certified in Medical Acupuncture, has training in osteopathic manipulation and knowledge of alternative therapies, supplementing her western medicine education.

She is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the New England Society of Medical Acupuncture.

  • I was seen on time. This was my first meeting with Dr Mello. My new PCP. Took the time to ask all the appropriate questions. Never felt rushed.

  • I called and an appointment was made within a few days for a health scare and was guided to the best treatment in a timely manner!

  • My MD and the staff were very prompt and welcoming. My Dr is very easy to talk to and she explains everything in a way I understand not to technically.

I appreciate the background questions on mental health, financial and food concerns but, I wish you had a way for patients to record their health goals and their personal philosophy/motivation for good health so you can see what kind of patient we are willing to be.

  • Frankly, I don't prefer telehealth visits. In this case, however, Dr. Mello was mostly reviewing bloodwork results, which don't require a physical presence.

  • Both the nurse or whoever I spoke to first and the doctor were very interested in what I had to say, the reason that I wanted an appointment, the message that the answerer, the nurse I guess, took to give to the doctor sounded absolutely accurate and the doctor When she spoke with me, handled everything very well, listened to my concerns and we made decisions together.

  • Going to the doctor makes me very anxious but I felt comfortable with each staff member I encountered. They are very nice on the phone as well. The only thing I recommend is putting up signs/arrows to get back to the check out desk after being in the exam room.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
