About Emmet Eby

Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and passed critical care boards in 2008, Dr. Eby has been a member of the medical staff at Tobey Hospital for more than 20 years.

A graduate of the University of Kansas Medical School, Dr. Eby completed a residency in internal medicine at the State University of New York Hospital in Stony Brook and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care at Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University in Providence, R.I.

He has served as medical director of pulmonary medicine and critical care at Tobey and the bariatric surgery program at Southcoast Hospitals.

He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Surgeons and a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Physicians.

  • Dr. Emmet Eby is one of the most conscientious and well-researched doctors that I've ever had. He goes above and beyond. He and his staff are conscientious and forward-thinking in terms of providing me the best possible health care possible. He also worked late and called me after hours as he further researched any complications that may exist with my prescribed medication, Nucala, prescribed by Dr. Eby, and how they may interact with my other medications, which I was totally impressed with. Dr. Eby is amazing.

  • I really like Dr. Eby. He is everything one wants in a primary or specialist doc. He is patient. He listens well. I never feel rushed. He was my primary but then when he became head of the Tobey ICU, I had to find another primary. He's a gem.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
