About Christopher Tanga

Christopher F. Tanga earned his medical degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia, with his undergraduate studies completed at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. He completed a General Surgery residency at Ohio University, Ohio Health Doctors Hospital and Grant Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident. He is a certified General Surgeon by the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He has also completed a vascular surgery fellowship at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York where he also served as Chief Vascular Fellow, and is currently board eligible in vascular surgery.

Dr. Tanga had his first exposure to surgery while working on the North Shore as a nurse’s aide. He felt inspired by two vascular surgeons who exposed him to their practice and patients. He saw the complexity of their work as a challenge, and the relationships that were able to be developed with the patients as extremely rewarding. As a vascular surgeon he has the privilege of making and maintaining long term relationships with his patients which is what has drawn him to this line of surgery. His clinical interests include open and endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease and limb salvage, dialysis access, venous disease, thoracic aortic aneurysms, aortic dissections, and smoking cessation programs.

Dr. Tanga’s philosophy of care is centered around keeping the whole patient as an individual in mind rather than simply the illness that brought them in, and being understanding of how the disease is affecting the patient’s life and overall wellbeing. It is his hope that his patients are able to improve their health and wellbeing while maintaining their dignity. Now, as a member of the Southcoast Health community, Dr. Tanga strives to deliver high quality compassionate care in an efficient health system filled with other expert physicians and practitioners.

Outside of work, Dr. Tanga enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 boys, reading books weekly, and making custom furniture in his woodshop. In addition, he enjoys indulging in seafood and shellfish.

Southcoast Health physician profiles now feature star ratings.  Below, you’ll find frequently asked questions about our process for calculating the ratings.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
