Dr. Catherine Rapp earned her Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, before she obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Dr. Rapp has proudly served in the United States Navy where she performed her duties as Orthopedic Surgeon at U.S. Naval Hospital Sigonella in Sicily, Italy, the NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit (MMU) in Kandahar, Afghanistan and at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
Following her military service, she completed a fellowship in Adult Shoulder and Elbow Reconstruction at the Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Her goal is to effectively communicate with her patients to help them maintain or regain their desired activity level in the least invasive and most effective way possible.
Her interest in orthopedics began in medical school while doing an orthopedic rotation as a second year student. She was awed when she saw the potential to definitively improve someone’s function through surgeries, such as joint replacements or fracture fixations, to help correct something that could be a permanent disability.
She was drawn to shoulder surgery after her practice as a general orthopedic surgeon throughout her military service. Furthering her education, she attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where she received her MBA
When not at work, Dr. Rapp enjoys spending time in the outdoors, hiking and traveling. She also enjoys reading, cooking and photography.
