About Thaylon (Ty) Barreto

Dr. Thaylon (Ty) Barreto earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, Massachusetts. He then went on to earn his Doctorate of Medicine from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

He has proudly served in the United States Army and is bilingual in both English and Portuguese.

His inspiration to become a primary care doctor is rooted in the desire to build meaningful and long lasting relationships with patients. As a primary doctor, he feels he has the privilege to get to know patients as a whole person.

As a primary care doctor he believes in fostering a collaborative partnership with his patients where necessary guidance and information is provided to help a patient make the best informed decisions about their health.

When not at work, Thaylon devotes his time to his lovely wife and their three children. He enjoys going to the beach, cycling, tackling home improvement projects, and board games.

I was not happy that I had to get a PCP in Fall River when I live and work in New Bedford. But after meeting some of the staff and Dr. Barreto I felt like the extra 10-15 minute drive was well worth it. I am extremely happy with Dr. Thaylon Barreto he made me feel like he really cared about my health and made himself very much aware of what has been going on with me in the last year. Dr Barreto is excellent. He listens and answered all my questions and concerns. He explained how my medication works with my Kidney Disease. Gave me options to try for my care and will be following up with me to see how I am. He looks at me when speaking and makes sure I understand. He is present and that's wonderful. I've had Drs in the past where I felt unimportant and they were rushed to come and go. This was the best appointment I've had in years.

He made you feel comfortable and welcome and he had considerable knowledge of the problems that he was discussing with you and he made you feel like he cared about you and so I thought he was an excellent provider and more people that give services should be as open and as good a listener as he is and show the compassion that he shows.

Dr Barreto made me feel very comfortable almost immediately. He discussed everything very clearly and met me at my level. I felt that he cared deeply about my health and concerns. I really liked how he explained his decisions and showed me the math behind them. My Bp was high at the start due to nerves, I was very happy when he checked again and it had a normal range. Even though I was forced by Southcoast to switch providers, I am very comfortable with the change. I look forward to many years with Dr Barreto

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
