About Ahmet Burakgazi

Dr. Burakgazi earned his medical degree at the Hacettepe University School of Medicine Ankara, Turkey. He then completed his neurology residency and Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at George Washington University, School of Medicine in Washington DC. Before joining Southcoast, Dr. Burakgazi served as a staff neurologist at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He has been distinguished as an associate professor of neurology at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

Dr. Burakgazi’s extensive clinical experience has helped him to become an expert in the region on treating and managing a broad spectrum of neurological disorders. When treating patients, he takes pride in using the latest advancements in technology as well as building relationships by listening and keeping all communication channels open at all times.

Dr. Burakgazi is a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Peripheral Nerve Society, the American Academy of Neurology and the Turkish Medical Association.

He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His clinical interests include neuromuscular disorders, Peripheral nerve disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), Muscular dystrophy, Radiculopathy and General Neurology.

When not traveling to different parts of the world with his wife, Dr. Burakgazi enjoys reading and watching movies.

  • Hello. My experience in the office was very professional. The provider was able to book me in for a second appointment the same day for testing. However, when I had my referral from my PCP, it did take several months to get in for the wait time. I would appreciate maybe a high-call priority cancellation list. I did have flexibility in my schedule, and I did call the office. I made it to my appointment as scheduled, and that would be my only feedback is that if I could get in earlier, I would have wanted to. Thank you for your time.

  • Dr B is always kind and listens and answers my questions when I do have one . He is great doctor with awesome bedside manners .

  • When a provider refers you to another provider in there office and they have everything on this patient they should give to them before there visit so the provider knows everything not be blind side and patient has to repeat them self over what's wrong with them.

  • Hello. Entering Dr. Burakgazi's office for South Coast Medical, I am immediately helped, understood, and things are explained to me correctly. When I get to Dr. Burakgazi, it is in a timely manner, and he is very personable, helpful, and knows the history of my health. When I'm leaving, they check me out, and they definitely ask me if I need anything else, help me with appointments. Everything is perfect. When I call or send a message through the portal, I am answered in a prompt, and customer service is perfect. Thank you.

  • I was able to get follow-up visits and testing within a week, and I found the doctor to have very good eye contact, which is always a cost, and pre-knowledge of why I was there, which is also important instead of you just going in and the doctor having to read his notes, which should have been read prior to your entry, but this guy was very well-informed, and I would recommend him and this office very highly. I finally went to the check out desk to ask for help. After another 5 minutes, the doctor came in and blamed the issue on a computer issue. He had not looked at my chart, didn't know why I was there, and didn't know that I had already had an mri. He then offered various meds. I will be calling to switch doctors or leaving the practice.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
