A Quick Response from This Brewster EMT Duo Helped Save a Life

For Riley Mydlack and Danny Andrade, caring for others is second nature.

It’s the reason the two of them work for Brewster Ambulance Service as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), and why our St. Luke’s Hospital Crapo Unit recently recognized them at a team huddle.

A few weeks ago, on a typical afternoon, Riley and Danny were called to transport a discharged patient from St. Luke’s. As the two prepared to leave the hospital, they saw another patient experiencing a medical emergency and immediately jumped in to assist our care team as an emergency code was called.

“There is no doubt that Danny and Riley’s quick thinking and willingness to step in during an emergency played a vital role in saving this patient’s life,” says Beena Kuriakose, Clinical Nurse Manager for Crapo Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital. “We are immensely grateful to them for going above and beyond to aid our team and our patient.”

The event serves as a reminder of how essential teamwork is between the hospital and EMS to provide exceptional care to our community.

Thanking them for going above and beyond for our patients, Riley and Danny were invited back to St. Luke’s to be honored by the team. Here they were also reunited with the patient who wanted to thank them personally for their lifesaving actions that day.

On behalf of all of us here at Southcoast Health, we convey our deepest appreciation to Danny, Riley, and the entire Brewster team. Their assistance and dedication to patient care are exemplary, and we are very fortunate to work alongside such outstanding partners in patient care.
