FAIRHAVEN, Mass. – Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association, known in the community as Southcoast VNA, will host its 12th annual bereavement camp, Camp Angel Wings, in July. This is a meaningful, fun-filled, two-day camp experience for children and teens, ages 6 through 15, who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The camp will be held on July 11 and 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Camp Welch in Assonet.

Campers will participate in various interactive activities including music, swimming and arts and crafts, as a positive way to help share their loss and memorialize loved ones. All activities are designed to reduce feelings of isolation and improve the self-esteem of children and teens who share like experiences in grief.

Camp Angel Wings is free for all campers and registration is required. Beginning April 1, applications to attend Camp Angel Wings will be accepted online by going to www.southcoast.org/campangelwings. Applications should be completed as soon as possible or no later than June 8, as space is limited and a waiting list is expected.

Southcoast VNA is also seeking volunteers to serve as camp counselors to groups of 6 to 7 children (requires a commitment to the entire weekend), or to lead or assist with grief activities such as a grief walk, petting zoo, planting flowers, and decorating masks, photo frames and memory boxes.

In order to participate, volunteers must complete and submit a volunteer application as soon as possible and no later than June 5, provide two references, and undergo a successful state background check. In addition, all volunteers will need to complete volunteer training, which will be provided by Southcoast VNA.
