Am I doing my kegels correctly?
Kegel is another term for pelvic floor muscle contraction.
To understand where these muscles are located, imagine the pelvic floor muscles are like a hammock extending from the pubic bone in the front to the tailbone in the back.
To perform a kegel, draw the center of the hammock up into the vaginal canal. Common errors when performing this exercises are either to bear down or to squeeze the buttocks. Check your technique with a mirror or your finger. Be sure to let your muscle relax completely after each kegel contraction.
Not everyone is a candidate for kegels. For example, if you experience pelvic pain, urinary urgency or frequency, kegels could aggravate these problems. These are some of the symptoms that we can help you with here at Southcoast Pelvic Rehab.
