Growing up south of Ottawa in Canada, he’s no stranger to the slopes. He even worked for four years as a ski patroller at a ski resort north of Montreal before pursuing a full-time career in medicine.

Blending his two interests, since 2007 he has traveled the world as a dedicated physician for the Canadian Alpine Ski Team, providing his medical expertise during their high-speed, high-stakes events. These Olympic-level athletes push the limits, hurtling down the slopes at amazing speeds. When injury occurs, Dr. Robertson is there to serve as their advocate, making sure the medical care they receive from local providers meets the highest standards. If necessary, injured athletes are transferred across borders to access other facilities. It’s a thrilling environment and his presence ensures their health and safety is always the top priority.

“Being a part of the team is more than just providing medical care – it’s about ensuring these athletes can safely chase their dreams,” says Dr. Robertson. “Watching them overcome challenges, whether on the slopes or in recovery, is incredibly rewarding. Some of us have known each other for years, and now we’re more like family. It’s a great experience.”

Dr. Robertson also offers skiing tips to recreational skiers seeking to hone their skills. “Muscular balance and core strength are essential,” he advises. “Proper positioning on the slopes is key to both performance and recovery. The right techniques can set you up for success and help you bounce back if you take a fall.”
