Southcoast Health Leads the State Earning the Highest Rating on the 2024 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Survey

The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) has announced the results of the highly anticipated Digital Health Most Wired Survey for the 2024 data collection period.

Southcoast Health earned the top Level 10 result for demonstrating the highest levels of digital adoption across both hospital and outpatient services. Southcoast Health is one of 15 health systems worldwide, and the only system in New England, to earn this elite designation in both categories.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Most Wired Survey for the sixth year in a row, and to achieve the highest designation accomplishes a long-standing goal on behalf of our patients, providers, and staff,” said Jim Feen, Senior Vice President, Chief Digital & Information Officer at Southcoast Health. “Achieving this industry distinction is a clear demonstration of the amazing work done at Southcoast Health to embrace innovation to improve what we do for our communities, and I couldn’t be prouder. I want to congratulate our clinical and business partners, along with our Digital Health Services team for their ongoing dedication to innovation and adaptability in healthcare technology.”

Southcoast Health’s Data Management and Analytics program also received a singular distinction and highest industry award this year, indicating it met the highest industry standards for managing and producing highly accurate data for the organization. The survey evaluates the adoption, integration, and impact of technologies across healthcare organizations, from early-stage adopters to industry leaders.

“As patient care increasingly relies on technology, our Digital Health Services team, led by Jim Feen, ensures we can seamlessly deliver exceptional care to our patients across the system,” said Dennis LaRock, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Physician Officer. “I am honored to work with such a great leader, and team who brought this innovation to Southcoast Heath. This year they helped us achieve a 14% greater primary care provider utilization rate and facilitate 33,000 more primary care visits annually. These advancements have also allowed Southcoast Health to safely expand the use of AI tools supporting our expert clinicians in our mission to deliver the highest quality care.”

Among almost 48,000 facilities represented in the survey, Southcoast Health distinguished itself by ranking above peers in critical categories such as analytics and data management, population health, infrastructure, and patient engagement.

“Into the future our integration and adoption of advanced technology is going to have a tremendous impact on the high-quality patient care and innovative services we provide as a community health system. I am proud of this team, and the many ways their use of digital technology is supporting our commitment to health equity, quality, safety, and workforce experience while prioritizing patient privacy and data security,” said David O. McCready, President and CEO of Southcoast Health.

The Digital Health Most Wired survey is an international benchmarking and recognition program which serves as a comprehensive “Digital Health Check-up” for healthcare organizations across the world.

In the face of escalating challenges like increasing cybersecurity threats, evolving care models, staffing shortages, and budget constraints, the urgency for revolutionizing healthcare through technology continues to grow. The next 30 years will bring profound changes, driven by emerging technologies.

As success in digital health increasingly influences patient care quality, the CHIME Digital Health Most Wired survey reflects the progress of leading healthcare providers as they reshape healthcare for the future. This achievement extends beyond information technology, symbolizing a collective organizational commitment to enhancing healthcare through advanced digital health strategies.

“We are proud to recognize Southcoast Health’s exceptional dedication to digital health excellence,” said CHIME President and CEO, Russ Branzell. “Your pioneering performance in the industry not only inspires other organizations by example, but also provides patients around the world with better care.”
