Dr. Tony Xia earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from New York University, in New York NY. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Medicine from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He completed a Residency of General Surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem Pennsylvania where he also went on to become Chief Resident. His fellowship in Surgical Critical Care was completed at the Boston University Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Xia is both an administrative fellow and a clinical instructor at the Boston University School of Medicine and holds memberships in various professional societies such as but not limited to, the Eastern Association of Surgery Trauma and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
His personal philosophy is to take excellent care of anyone who walks in the door regardless of who they are and how they came. He believes that it requires a lot of education, informed conversation, and decision-making in order to take great care of a patient.
He believes that when someone comes in injured, part of his job is to help the patient and their loved ones understand what is going on and what the treatment options are so that together they can come up with a plan to go forward with. His hope is that patients come in understanding that he and his team’s goal is to make the best outcome their priority.
Dr. Xia became a trauma surgeon because he wanted to help the community in a tangible way; when a patient is injured, he can see and feel what the injury is and his training gives him the ability to fix it. He finds it immensely gratifying to see a patient come in after a traumatic injury and be a part of their getting back to life.
To him, Southcoast Health is an organization that is dedicated to serving its unique community.
When not at work he love to cook and spend time outdoors skiing, hiking, and biking.
