MassDEP Air Quality Advisory | June 6 and 7, 2023

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) issued a statewide air quality advisory effective from midnight, June 6, 2023, until midnight, June 7, 2023 in response to the heavy presence of smoke from Canadian Wildfires in our area.

As the smoke moves throughout our region, the air quality is expected to be unhealthy for people including those with heart or lung disease, asthma, older adults, children, teenagers, and people who are active outdoors.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Please see some resources below in response to the air quality alert.

Health Tips

It is advised that people with heart or lung disease, asthma, older adults, children, teenagers, and people who are active outdoors:

  • Reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion
  • Take more breaks
  • Do less intense activities, follow asthma action plans, and keep quick-relief medicine handy.
  • Watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath.

These individuals should continue to follow their care plans and keep quick relief medicine handy. Respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD are known to worsen with severe air pollution.

All are encouraged to watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath.

These weather conditions are likely to extend throughout the next several days.
