The Southcoast Health System Board of Trustees elected Donald G. Giumetti, President & CEO of Shepard Group Inc., as Chair during the system’s recent Annual Meeting.

Giumetti, formerly Vice Chair of the Southcoast Health System Board of Trustees, has succeeded Louis A. Cabral, who will remain on the Board after completing his three-year term as Chair.

“Southcoast Health and the South Coast itself have been close to my heart for decades, integral to my life and the lives of my loved ones, so this is a true honor,” Giumetti said. “I am both proud and humbled to accept the Chairmanship, and look forward to continuing our important work alongside the exceptional providers, nurses, and staff who strive every day to keep our community healthy and well.”

Giumetti has served on the Southcoast Health System Board of Trustees since 2016. Recently, he was the Southcoast Health System Board of Trustees’ representative on the capital campaign to complete the Baldwin Makepeace Emergency Center at Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

 “We have an exciting few years ahead of us,” Giumetti said. “We’re making progress in our recovery from the pandemic and emerging as a stronger system than ever, with a focus on unparalleled clinical care and service excellence for our patients, while fostering the best possible environment for Southcoast Health’s outstanding employees. I thank my fellow Trustees and everyone in the Southcoast organization for this opportunity.”

Carmen Sylvester, President & CEO of Alltrust Credit Union, was elected to succeed Giumetti as Vice Chair.

“As a longtime resident of this region, I have watched with appreciation as Southcoast Health has invested year after year in world-class health care for southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island,” Sylvester said. “I am deeply grateful to now have the chance to contribute to these vital efforts alongside Don and the Board of Trustees.”

Sylvester joined the Southcoast Health System Board of Trustees in 2020.
