About John Ponti

Dr. John Ponti specializes in non-operative treatment. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He then went on to further his medical expertise, graduating with his Doctor of Medicine degree from UMass Medical School in Worcester, MA. Dr. Ponti completed his residency at Brown Family Medicine in Pawtucket, RI before moving on to complete his fellowship at UMass Sports & Exercise Medicine in Worcester, MA. He is board certified through the American Board of Family Medicine. During his fellowship training, Dr. Ponti was a team physician for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, as well as the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Holy Cross. Dr. Ponti specializes in Sports Medicine and is the Affiliate Instructor of Sports Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine at UMass TH Chan Medical School.

Dr. Ponti’s philosophy of care is centered around believing that a physician should strive to educate, inform, and empower their patients to make the best clinical decisions. As he is trained in primary care, he also believes in treating the patient as a whole and taking into account all of their medical conditions and history when treating them.

He is an avid Boston sports fan and is especially passionate about baseball. In addition, Dr. Ponti volunteers at a summer camp for children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Dr Ponti is young & eager to listen to his patient & work to better the patients QOL. This was my first visit, and although my condition warrants a replacement joint, he is willing to try to treat the join to help it be less painful before going right to surgery.His assistants in the office were friendly & patient also. The young woman in xray was patient in her explaination of positions to get the best images. He could read the xrays immediately when I returned to the exam room without taking another patient in between causing delay.Very happy with Dr Ponti so far.

I enjoyed the experience. Dr. Ponti was very nice and informative. The only thing is he mentioned about going back and having a shot within seven to ten days and that's not possible for the simple fact that his next appointment I have is the 13th of March. That was a little surprising but he's a busy man but I'm on the call list in case there's a cancellation. Okay, my experience overall was very good and I appreciated Dr. Ponti. He was very good. This appointment was for a shoulder procedure. I was a little anxious with not knowing entirely what to expect. The Doctor explained in great detail what the issue was in my x- rays, the procedure to be done and more. I was told each step as the procedure went. When everything was done follow up care was explained, questioned reviewed etc. The Doctor, Assistant and Nurse were all kind with all my questions and all involved.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
