Meet the Outpatient Nutrition Team!
Outpatient Nutrition Plays a Pivotal Role in Community Health
Southcoast Health’s Registered Dietitians (RDs) play an important role in the care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient nutrition settings. It is common to find RDs providing exceptional care to our inpatient population, attending to their dietary needs and focusing on getting them healthier. However, outpatient RDs also play a pivotal role in the health and maintenance of individuals across our community.
Our general outpatient RDs provide care and education for diabetes, eating disorders, food allergies, gastrointestinal (GI) issues, and much more. They also provide pediatric nutrition counseling for children who are at risk for or have been diagnosed with any of these conditions.
RDs offer individual nutrition counseling and follow-up care to maintain overall health and manage medical conditions through dietary and lifestyle changes.
Outpatient Nutrition Counseling is Available Close to Home
Outpatient Nutrition counseling is available at Tobey, St. Luke’s, and the Charlton Memorial campus (373 New Boston Road), as well as through telehealth options. For more information, please call 508-973-5170.
In addition, Southcoast outpatient RDs work in specialized areas such as our Cancer Centers and Weight Loss Center. The Southcoast Health Weight Loss Center provides both surgical and medical weight loss options for patients. Our dietitians work alongside an expert team of surgeons, nurse practitioners, licensed social workers, and physicians who are board-certified in obesity medicine.
The Southcoast Health Weight Loss Center is the region’s leader in weight loss surgery, helping thousands of patients. Our team provides extensive pre-op education as well as ongoing post-op support to help patients reach their goals.
The Southcoast Weight Loss Center Partners with Outpatient Nurtitionists
The Southcoast Weight Loss Center also offers the F.R.E.S.H. Start Program, which incorporates medical, nutritional, and behavioral support. This program focuses on a whole food, therapeutic carbohydrate reduction lifestyle that has been shown to help improve conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, fatty liver disease, and more. A low-carbohydrate lifestyle has a natural appetite-reducing effect that can help cut down on cravings and ease patients into eating smaller quantities more easily. When appropriate, weight loss medication may be prescribed by one of our physicians to help patients with their weight loss journey.
The Weight Loss Center offers appointments at the Charlton Memorial campus (300 Hanover Street) and Rosebrook in Wareham, as well as telehealth appointments.
