About Joann Chang

Joann Chang, MD earned her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. She then completed her General Internal Medicine Residency through Brown University’s program at Rhode Island Hospital. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Chang’s clinical interests include preventative care, complex care management, and mental health.

Dr. Chang chose to become a primary care physician to serve her patients with preventative care. Her personal philosophy of care involves empowering patients to make their best healthcare decisions. Doctor-patient relationships are important to Dr. Chang, and she believes that these healthcare partnerships bring the best possible care.

In her free time, Dr. Chang enjoys reading and practicing yoga.

Waited for my appointment for 1 hour. Thankfully i am healthy so my physical was very quick. Less than 10 minutes. With a 9:20 appointment I would never have expected to wait over 30 minutes in the waiting room and then more in the exam room.Provider herself is great but Southcoast must be a terrible place to work because most great providers I've had are moving elsewhere and I've had to change PCPs multiple times in two years as a result.

I think Dr. Chang is an excellent physician how all should work. She cares about her patients deeply. This was my first apt with Dr. Chang. The Doctor and all staff were very pleasant and informative. I had to wait @ 20-30 minutes for the doctor but that seems to be the norm in most doctor's offices. On my way out, the receptionist was very pleasant and emphasized that I should call any time if I am not well and there would always be someone that could see me. I would recommend this office.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
